It is a favorite for its gorgeous appearance, but is it as durable as it looks? The answer is a resounding yes. Obtained from the coniferous family, Douglas fir is certainly strong enough to make Adirondack chairs for indoor and outdoor use.
Here's a fun way to reuse wood. Make this Adirondack chair from shipping pallets or other reclaimed lumber. .
Our customers often drive several hours to save money on poly outdoor furniture. Folks often express concern, over the phone, that something must be wrong with the furniture seen on this website since the prices are so much lower than poly outdoor furniture sold elsewhere. It is quite common that after our customers see the furniture in person, they load up as many pieces as they can fit in their vehicles. This customer called from New Jersey to reserve maybe a porch swing and maybe some folding Adirondack chairs if they liked the furniture after seeing it in person. They ended up buying 8 folding Adirondack chairs, 1 porch swing, 6 Adirondack footrests, 4 accent tables and 4 bent poly rocking chairs. I think it's fair to say they liked what they saw when they got here!
Place your wood on your sawhorse so you can work without having to constantly bend over. If you don’t have a sawhorse, you can get one HERE.
So bad, right?! To get just a bit more use out of them I decided to paint them last Spring. Painting these wobbly old chairs gave them another season. This is what they looked like after paint: (you can find that project here: Painting Adirondack Chairs)
I saw them last week at my local Costco’s. I live on the peninsula so I go to the 4 Costco’s around me. I will be at Costco tomorrow morning, so I will let you know if they are in stock in the South San Francisco Costco. Not sure if you’d be willing to make the drive, but I’ll check for ya. Hope you find them!

One of the biggest issues with outdoor chairs is the maintenance that you usually have to do like staining or painting. This chair does away with this level of maintenance with you only needing to go over it with a brush and water. This means less time working and more time relaxing and who doesn’t like that!
Much nicer, right? But it was like putting lipstick on a pig. Paint made them look pretty, but they were still wobbly and rickety. I think we got our money’s worth out of those crappy old Adirondack chairs and now its time for something a bit sturdier and better.
I don t believe in an antique piece being made available only to a certain gender because its beauty is timeless and can be enjoyed by just about anybody. I personally would want that as my workdesk which can also double up as a TV console once I am done with work.
As more and more outdoor furniture turns to imitation wood, it is nice to see a company that still makes Adirondack chairs out of solid hardwood. Nothing really beats the look and feel of real wood. Another benefit of Acacia wood is that it is a naturally gentle wood. So it is smooth to the touch and is rather scratch resistant. Making it a great outdoor chair for tall people. However, if you are heavy and wide, you may not find the 20-inch wide seat between the arms enough. So I suggest you read on and check out the next chair with a wider seat. Adirondack chairs are some of the most comfortable outdoor chairs you can get and this Highwood chair plays a crucial role for providing superior support for the tall person. There’s a number of reasons why this chair is good, but it’s the overall comfort and design that appeals most to me.

If you’re on the heavier side of life, then getting out of these types of chairs can be difficult and your best bet would be to find one that’s a bit higher off the ground.
