Simple repair: Drill a 3/8 inch hole at about the same distance to either side of the split and use a nylon wire tie (zip tie) to hold the split together. Whenever your doing a paint project, always buy twice the amount you think you will need. Better to have too much than run out. You can return what you don’t use.

I've also gone through a lot of these.....haven't found the solution myself other than to head to Home Depot to replace. They are very comfortable and durable, but don't last forever.
