With the Polywood Adirondack chairs, you have one of the best outdoor chairs. These chairs can resist harsh elements of weather such as snow, rain and hot sun.
The weight of this chair is fairly heavy but as I mentioned before, having a heavier outdoor chair isn’t actually a bad thing. With it weighing 45lbs it’s going to be difficult to be blown around in all but the strongest of winds.

Cutting and planing ipe is strenuous to tools and even blunts sharp edges. Gluing it on the joints is troublesome. Ipe dust is also highly likely to trigger allergic reactions.
Through it all, the furniture patiently endures--ever handsome, ever inviting, ever lasting. To survive summertime abuse and the semiannual ritual of being dragged into and out of storage, outdoor furniture must be sturdy, rugged, and well built--all qualities that epitomize Adirondack pieces.
You want all of your pieces to match as closely to the template as possible. And you may have cut a few pieces a little rough, or not exactly on the template so you will want to sand the edges smooth. To do this you can use a spindle sander. I admit that I started out clamping matching pieces together to attempt to sand them together. But I eventually gave up on that and sanded each piece one at a time, stopping periodically to compare them to one another. This is the oscillating spindle sander that I have HERE.
We do not build our chairs with little stick legs or narrow back boards with large gaps between them. We use thick one and a half inch thick boards for the front and back legs which provides more surface area to screw and glue down the seat and arm boards. This makes our chairs tough and sturdy and less likely to split out over time. Now what about the all important Adirondack chair arms? All our original designs feature traditional wide one inch thick arms because simply put they make the classic American iconic chair what it is; without them you would not have that perfect spot to place your drink, plate of food, book or anything else. It is our goal to make our chairs well balanced, eye catching as well as strong and long lasting. No two pieces of wood are exactly the same. This is why it is best for us to assemble our chairs one at a time. Using this type of detailed craftsmanship allows us to make sure that each and every Clarks Original that leaves our shop goes together correctly and is our best. We are very confident that when you get ready to assemble your chair it will go together the way it is suppose too.
It is a dense wood that is resistant to dents and scratches. Acacia is also water-resistant and easily workable. The wood hues are light to reddish-brown because there are hundreds of species in existence.
The modern Adirondack chair still holds the dramatic charm that the original chair had during Lee’s time but with a few modifications. The seat is now contoured, the back slightly rounded and the armrests wide and long.
