Ideally, you want a chair that has the front edge of the seat with no less than 10 inches from the ground. Any lower, and you will find it quite difficult to get down onto safely.
Simple repair: Drill a 3/8 inch hole at about the same distance to either side of the split and use a nylon wire tie (zip tie) to hold the split together. If the split is long, you might want to use a few parallel wire ties. The wire ties will last a season or two before they break, and will need replacement. .
Cedar: While not as tough as teak, cedar does make a more durable chair than pine. The wood has a natural oil that resists bug infestations and decay. Like pine, a cedar Adirondack chair will need to be refinished every year or two. Cedar naturally adjusts to the moisture found in wet climates, making it an excellent choice for chairs that will be left in the rain.
The measurements of this chair are all fairly decent but it’s the width of the chair that is one of the standouts. It measures an impressive 30.75 inches which does give you a good amount of room to sit on. Combined with the 38.25-inch height of the chair makes, it great for taller people.
So this chair can withstand all kinds of different elements and remove the worry of splinters, peeling, chipping, cracking, and rotting. As you can see this chair has been designed around being able to handle the various elements.
Just bought four of these type of chair after doing a couple months of research into them (after seeing one for very cheap at Costco). Bought during the Memorial Day sale, buy 3 get one free, with free shipping. That sale seems to be over, but they still have a "special". They're not cheap, but are very comfortable, we like that the version we bought fold up nicely, and they have a relatively very long 20 yr residential warranty. We're expecting them to last for years.
Glad to hear Tim. Thanks for letting us know. I’m with you as far as getting in & out. I have just heard a few complaints from older folks about it being low to the ground, which causes difficulty getting up and down. These chairs are designed low to the ground & most people usually know that when purchasing or using them. Thanks for stopping by
