Though not as heavy as teak, it is pretty durable and strong. It will dent and scratch when mishandled but serves you a long time when finished.

Thanks for the info, Corey. I didn’t use primer either and I feel like I used quite a bit of paint. I tried to use a sweeping motion while spraying and I was worried about using too much, but since you mentioned using a thick coat, I guess I didn’t use too much (even though I used more than one can).
This is a power tool challenge project where a few of my fellow bloggers and myself get together and create a project based on one theme. This months theme is Spring. We are building Adirondack chairs to welcome the warm weather of Spring. Each project must be created using at least one power tool. Make sure to check out these other projects. There is no easy answer to why Adirondack chairs are so expensive. A lot goes into the design of these chairs which I believe is a big part of the reason that do seem to cost more than others. Their design isn’t a simple basic design like most others, so their manufacturing process is more difficult.
These chairs are relatively lightweight and you can carry them from one point to another. So maybe think about taking one of its kind to the beach or picnic and see how it turns out there.
Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and then smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain over the components, to protect the wood from the lumber and to enhance the look of the chair.
